Eunice doesn’t sound scary but the forecast for her arrival is wild. The Met Office has issued a rare ‘Red’ Weather Warning as Storm Eunice is forecast to bring extremely strong winds and disruption to the UK tomorrow, Friday 18th February.
The Red Weather Warning for wind covers southwest coastal areas of the UK, where the worst of the weather will see wind exceeding 90mph from early Friday morning. Further inland and within the wider Amber Warning area, gusts have the potential to still bring damage to properties for many, with 70-80mph gusts expected.
Snow is also on the forecast bringing high risk to motorists. On the flank of Storm Eunice, there’s a risk of snow in Northern Ireland, northern England and southern Scotland. A Yellow Warning has been issued for snow with possible blizzard conditions High ground being particularly at risk, with up to 20cm forecast in the Pennines.
Flood risk is high. The Environment Agency said: “Strong winds could bring coastal flooding to parts of the west, southwest and south coast of England, as well as the tidal River Severn, in the early hours of Friday morning. This is due to Storm Eunice resulting in high waves and potential storm surge coinciding with the start of a period of spring tides.’
